Cat Eye Gel Polish and Magnetic Effects
Cat eye gel is gel polish with magnetic particles suspended in it. You apply a coat, hold a magnet over the wet gel for a few seconds to pull those particles into a bright line, then cure that nail before the line drifts. The magnet shape decides the pattern: a flat bar pulls one straight line, a curved or multi-sided magnet gives the wide flare people call 9D, and tilting the magnet moves the line up or down the nail.
Two things make or break the effect. Contrast comes first, which is why most cat eye shades go over a dark base, usually black, so the streak reads bright against a dark ground. Timing comes second: work one nail at a time and cure immediately after pulling the line, because the particles keep settling while the gel is still wet. When you seal it, keep the top coat to one thin pass and cap the free edge lightly, since heavy brushing drags the line you just set.
